ABOUT THE CLUB

Welcome to the website of Stoke Gabriel Football Club,

A Charter Standard Community Club which has three mens sides operating in the South West Peninsula and South Devon leagues.

The most senior of those is managed by Pete Gartrell and Jason Couch in the South West Peninsula Division 1 (East); next comes the South Devon League Division 1 side managed by Matt Zadell followed by our third senior side under the watchful eye of Andy Horn and Paul Burnell in Division 4 of the South Devon League. The 2010/11 season will see the ladies side play in the Devon League Premier Division under the management of Mike Calf and Graham Legge.

We also have a thriving youth section with teams playing at under 15, 14, 13 and 12 age groups in the Pioneer Youth League in addition to a mini soccer section which has teams at under 11, 10, 9 and 8s.

Please contact the club to find out where and when these teams train as we always provide a warm welcome for new members.

We believe our infrastructure provides not only a secure future for the club but a sporting facility of which any young player can be proud. It is important we help develop the footballers of tomorrow and our Charter Club status means all our young players receive coaching from qualified and CRB accredited coaches as we endeavour to fill a role once played by schools in teaching children teamwork and mental strength in a friendly and competitive environment.

We have a proud and successful history which we intend to maintain as the current development of our new stand, clubhouse and changing rooms shows. Our plans both on and off the field are ambitious yet achievable and we welcome anyone who wishes to play a part in bringing these to fruition whatever role you wish to take on. Tell us what you're willing to do and we can make it happen.

Would moving kids' football to a summer game help improve the development of young footballers?
Yes - better pitches mean a better chance to develop technique/skills
No - wouldn't make any real difference to development
Maybe - but I'd be worried about more injuries on firm pitches
