Poor pre match preparation, an inability to do the basics correctly and an outstanding goalkeeping performance saw the side lying second bottom before the game inflict an embarrassing defeat on Stoke which, fortunately for them, results elsewhere did not expose. The visitors started in the ascendancy but in the 15th minute the writing was on the wall when skipper Mark Newbould was dispossessed in the centre circle, a swift forward pass split the Stoke rearguard and Okey talisman Adam Mortimer struck home with a left footed drive from 15 yards to begin what was to be a memorable afternoon for the home striker. Stoke responded though and on 25 minutes a Dave Worthington corner was headed home by Craig Duff to level the scores but the expected move to victory was halted four minutes later when a long ball was misjudged by Simon Armstrong and Mortimer ran on to double his tally. It was to be an unfortunate emerging pattern. Half time came and went without any notable change and on 49 minutes it was Sam Green's turn to fail to deal with the long ball and once again Mortimer capitalised by running on and completing his hat trick. Stoke hearts were lifted though when, five minutes later, Duff astutely curled home a free kick from 20 yards to reduce the arrears only for Armstrong to again misjudge another long ball for Mortimer to expectedly run on and score past beleagured debutant keeper Dean Munday. Immediately following the restart, the game changed when Okey's Adam Sanders was sent off for two bookable offences and this marked the start of a seige to the home goal and home keeper Saul Scarry's already impressive game became a match winning performance. On 80 minutes Duff's run down the left channel saw him cut into the box and he was brought down before converting the resultant penalty to complete his hat trick. However despite total territorial dominance, Ollie Critchlow hitting the bar and a string of outstanding saves by Scarry, the equaliser would not come and Stoke's inability to defend the long ball had cost them dear with their goals against column beginning to show a worrying trend if they are to maintain their current league position.
