Stoke truly bounced back from last weekend's maiden defeat to set a scoring record for pyramid football in Devon and Cornwall. While no two teams at any level of football should ever be separated by such a wide margin, Stoke maintained their concentration throughout this fixture and showed a disciplined performance to truly put their visitors to the sword. The rout started in the 11th minute when an Owen Williams free kick from his own half was finished by Craig Duff with a glancing header; after 14 minutes Lewis Robinson threaded a pass through to Jay Morgan who rounded the keeper to sidefoot home and open his season's account and the next came on 27 minutes when Lewis Robinson fed Craig Duff from deep and his whipped cross was miskicked by Morgan only to hit a recovering defender and fly into the net. Before the interval a long 30th minute pass from Williams found Morgan winning the aerial ball before running onto his own flick and drilling a shot across the keeper into the far corner and on 41 minutes Duff fed Jimmy Holland in a wide area before his cross was glanced home by Kev Wills for a 5-0 halftime score. Showing a keeness not to come off the pace, Stoke continued the rout on 48 minutes when Wills turned and shot home from inside the box; Duff headed home a Matt Guy cross on 55 minutes and two minutes later a Guy corner was powered home by a Robinson header. On 67 minutes Duff fed Morgan who, with his back to goal, half turned and shot home from ten yards to complete his hat trick; within a minute Morgan fed Wills who also completed his hat trick with a shot on the half turn and on 79 minutes a short Simon Armstrong free kick was drilled home by Dave Worthington from 25 yards. Worthington's brace came two minutes later when he sidefooted home Jimmy Holland's cross and the scoring was completed five minutes from time when Holland's cross was knocked on by a glancing Duff header for Wills to head home at the far post. Stoke joint manager Jason Couch astutely summed up, saying, "There are often half a dozen goals between top and bottom in any league but to score every seven minutes on average throughout a football match requires discipline, commitment and desire and few teams would do what our lads did today." A more personal touch was added by Pete Gartrell who spent six years managing the Otters between 2001-7 and said, "My time at Ottery trying to take the club to a level of football to match its facilities was hard work and while I'm delighted at today's performance and the three points, it gives me no pleasure to see a club at which I still have many friends having to suffer a defeat like that." This resounding result sent Stoke up to second and provided the perfect stage for next week's home game against third placed Royal Marines FC.
